Sports bets with the same odds as UConn losing the women's NCAA Tournament image

It's hard to quantify just how good the UConn women's basketball team is, because we don't see anything like this in sports, ever. So let's have betting odds try to tell the story.

UConn had a nearly 90 percent chance, based on moneyline odds of -800, of winning the 64-team women's NCAA Tournament before it began. That's a 90 percent chance of winning six consecutive games, many against the best teams in the country. A bettor had to lay $80 to win $10.

Now that the NCAA Tournament is down to four teams, the Huskies' odds have risen. 5Dimes sports book lists them at -2,315 to win the tournament, with the field getting +1,105, or 11-to-1. That means a bettor would have to wager $213.50 to win $10. That also means it an implied probability of nearly 96 percent.

UConn has been a massive favorite in each of its first four tournament games, going 2-2 ATS as an average favorite of 39.5 points. It's extended the Huskies' three-year record to 114-1.

UConn NCAA Tournament point spreads

RMU (-59) — won 101-49
Duquesne (-38) — won 97-51
Miss St (-31) — won 98-38
Texas (-30) — won 86-65
Oregon St (-23) — won 80-51

UPDATE: UConn, of course, smoked Oregon State in the national semifinal and will face Syracuse in Monday's national title. The Huskies are -25 and -7,000 on the moneyline. Syracuse is listed at 30-to-1 on the moneyline.

The biggest men's NCAA Tournament favorite over the last 10 years was unbeaten Kentucky (-35) against Hampton in the first round in 2015. To consistently be saddled with these numbers against the nation's best teams is something totally different.

UConn faces No. 2-seeded Oregon State on Sunday as a 23-point favorite and -10,000 on the moneyline. You'd need to wager $1,000 to earn just $10 on the Huskies winning straight up. A Beavers' victory would pay bettors out at 40-to-1 — same as the Lions winning the Super Bowl, Twins the World Series, Washington the College Football Playoff or the reeling Red Wings the Stanley Cup.

As for the whole tournament, the odds are slightly lower. Here are a few things in the betting world that have similar odds to UConn not winning the women's NCAA Tournament, which continues Sunday.

Baseball's best teams winning the World Series

Not including the Cubs, you can find any of baseball's best teams at 10-to-1 or higher to win the World Series if you look hard enough. The Mets, Astros, Dodgers, Giants and Red Sox are all available at 10-to-1.

These teams need to play 162 games, make the playoffs, then survive a largely unpredictable postseason format to cash and hit at 10-to-1. All Syracuse, Washington or Oregon State need to do is win one game.

The Panthers not scoring a TD in the Super Bowl

Hey, it actually almost happened. But before this year's big game, books offered Carolina not scoring a touchdown against the Broncos at 12-to-1. We can't imagine there were many bettors willing to take this prop.

The Capitals and Stars meeting in the Stanley Cup Final

5Dimes lists Stanley Cup matchups for this spring, and the most likely in its eyes is the Stars and Capitals — the two teams that lead their respective conferences. That matchup happening is available at about 11-to-1. Both teams will have to win three playoff series — in the brutal NHL postseason — before meeting for the Cup.

A Raptors-Warriors or Cavs-Thunder NBA Finals

Similar to the Stars and Caps, 5Dimes offers matchups for the NBA Finals, and both these are available at 12-to-1. The Cavs-Thunder is perhaps more surprising, because it involves the Warriors and Spurs both missing the Finals.

Bernie Sanders winning the U.S. Presidential Election

Oddsmakers are listing Sanders at about 12-to-1 to win the election after he's picked up some steam in the last two weeks. But Hillary Clinton still holds a wide lead and is listed at -220 to capture the Oval Office.

An earthquake happening during the Super Bowl

OK, this one's a little different because NO wasn't offered. But Bovada listed an earthquake happening during this year's Super Bowl in Santa Clara at 10-to-1, even lower than anyone beating UConn. An earthquake.
