Florida coach Will Muschamp has another issue to deal with this week.

According to the University Police Department, reserve quarterback Skyler Mornhinweg, son of New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, and teammate Gerald Willis got into a fight over a pair of missing cleats Monday night.

Mornhinweg sustained "small lacerations on his lower lip" and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the police report. Willis had a "small cut on his chin" but did not get medical attention.

Mornhinweg told police the fight started Monday night after his missing cleats were located in Willis' locker. Mornhinweg said he asked Willis about the cleats outside Florida Field following practice, and their discussion escalated into a physical altercation.

Willis was no longer at the scene when police arrived, so an officer met with Willis at the football facility Tuesday. Willis told the officer he couldn't locate his cleats recently, feared being late to practice and grabbed the nearest pair to him.

Willis said the two exchanged words, adding that he felt threatened by Mornhinweg standing over him. Willis said he pushed Mornhinweg, who responded by striking Willis with a closed fist. Willis then struck Mornhinweg in the mouth.

Both players declined to press charges, closing the case.

The scuffle came hours after the team suspended quarterback Treon Harris. Authorities are investigating sexual assault allegations against him in an early Sunday incident.

With Harris out and third-string quarterback Will Grier recovering from back spasms, Mornhinweg could be the backup heading into Saturday night's game against LSU.

Mornhinweg, a third-year sophomore from Philadelphia, played in three games late last season after starter Jeff Driskel and backup Tyler Murphy were injured. The 6-foot-3, 212-pound Mornhinweg completed 70 percent of his passes for 344 yards, with three touchdowns and an interception.

Willis, a 6-foot-3, 255-pound freshman defensive lineman from New Orleans, has four tackles and half a sack in two games.

STANFORD QB INJURED, BUT OK

Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan is nursing a leg injury but is expected to start against Washington State on Friday night.

Cardinal coach David Shaw said Tuesday that Hogan was injured during Stanford's 17-14 loss at Notre Dame on Saturday. He declined to discuss how the injury occurred or which leg was hurt.

Shaw said Hogan did not practice Monday, would be limited in Tuesday's practice and will likely participate without limitations in Wednesday's final practice before the game. Backup Evan Crower has been taking snaps with the first-team offense and would start if Hogan has a setback.

Stanford center Graham Shuler gave an optimistic outlook on Hogan's status. Shuler said Hogan injured his leg in the beginning of the game at Notre Dame but is fine now.

"I was jogging into the facility with him this morning. He's ready to roll," Shuler said.

Hogan has started every game for No. 25 Stanford (3-2, 1-1 Pac-12) since taking over for Josh Nunes in November 2012. He has led the Cardinal to the past two Pac-12 titles.

HS PLAYER COMMITS SUICIDE

One of the state of Alabama’s top high school players for the class of 2016 committed suicide Monday, AL.com reported.

Julian Jones, who played defensive end and tight end at Hazel Green High School in northern Alabama, was the son of former Alabama A&M (Huntsville, Ala.) coach Anthony Jones.

The Madison County School system released a statement, according to AL.com:

“We are deeply saddened by Julian's death and know that he will be missed by the lives he touched, the Hazel Green High School family, and the Trojan Football Team.  We are confident that Julian's memories will forever be in the hearts of those who knew him best.

“The Madison County School family extends sincere sympathy to the Jones family and wants them to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them.  We pray that they will gain strength and comfort during this most difficult time and in the days ahead."

According to 247Sports.com, Jones is listed at 6-5, 235 pounds and ranked the No. 17 player in the state.

CATS FRESHMAN CHARGED WITH RAPE

"Obviously, I'm very concerned about the allegations and all parties involved," Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said in a statement. "We're working extremely hard to develop quality young men on and off the field. We will continue to cooperate with the local and campus authorities while the process takes its course."

Tubman has not shown up in the participation report this season for the Wildcats.
