Group H is home to Poland, Colombia, Japan and Senegal – featuring an in-form Sadio Mane – and though Colombia and Senegal are the two favourites to progress with ease, shock results and surprises can always happen.

Poland have shown that they are a strong force after losing only to eventual champions Portugal by way of penalties in the quarter-finals of the 2016 Euros, while Japan will be looking to seek revenge against Colombia after they were beaten by the side 4-1 in Brazil four years ago.

Goal will take a look at the rundown of the Group H fixtures ahead of the June start, as well as what to expect from each team and more.

Carlos Sanchez was shown the second-fastest red card in World Cup history as Colombia slipped to a 2-1 defeat in their World Cup opener against Japan in Mordovia.

Shinji Kagawa put Japan ahead from the penalty spot after Sanchez's handball saw him sent off, and though Juan Fernando Quintero levelled before half-time, Koln forward Yuya Osako headed the winner in the 73rd minute for Japan.

Elsewhere, Poland were incredibly unimpressive as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Senegal, with M'Baye Niang taking advantage of a mix-up between Grzegorz Krychowiak and Wojciech Szczesny to finish Senegal's second goal with ease.

Senegal and Japan played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, with Sadio Mane and Moussa Wague's goals cancelled out by Takashi Inui and substitute Keisuke Honda's equalisers.

Poland became the first European team to be eliminated from the World Cup after being beaten 3-0 by Colombia. Yerry Mina gave Colombia the lead five minutes before the break, with second-half goals from Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado putting the seal on a comfortable win.

Colombia topped their group and eliminated Senegal from the competition after winning 1-0, while Poland also beat Japan 1-0. Senegal and Japan were level on points but it was Senegal who crashed out due to their poorer disciplinary record – as new FIFA fair play rules come into effect as a tie-breaker.
