Zinedine Zidane has been told he has a job at Real for “the rest of his life” by ecstatic club president Florentino Perez.

The Frenchman, who only inherited the reins in January 2016, has enjoyed a remarkable run of success at the Santiago Bernabeu helm.

He guided the club to Champions League glory upon succeeding Rafa Benitez, and has repeated the trick 12 months on following a 4-1 mauling of Juventus in Cardiff on Saturday.

That European triumph completed a notable double for Madrid, the club’s first since 1958, with Zidane having already overseen La Liga title success.

Perez told radio station Cadena Ser: “Zidane can stay at Real Madrid for the rest of his life.

“Every Real Madrid fan is so grateful to him, he lifted our level of talent when he arrived in 2001 and was the best player in the world.

“Now he is the best coach in the world. He has been our coach for 17 months but he has done everything possible.”

Zidane, who cut his coaching teeth in Madrid’s youth system, was reluctant to speculate on how long he will remain at the club after having Perez’s comments put to him, but is enjoying transferring his success as a player onto a management stage.

He said: “I can’t say whether I’ll stay for the rest of my life but I’m so grateful for the club for everything it has given me.

Ronaldo: Age is just a number

“I played here for a long time and I feel part of the furniture. I’m also lucky to be part of this club and with this squad. Every player in the squad has played their part, and that’s been the key factor this season.”

Zidane has suffered just seven defeats in 87 games as Madrid boss, with his five trophy haul the best return in the Spanish capital since Vicente del Bosque’s reign at the Bernabeu.
