Why are Arsenal wearing black vs. Tottenham: Reason for Gunners kit change

Tottenham and Arsenal face off in 210th edition of the North London derby in a crunch Premier League showdown.

History and local bragging rights are the on Sunday menu for both sets of fans alongside the chance to ignite their respective EPL campaigns.

However, eagle-eyed Arsenal supporters will notice a key change for their side, as Mikel Arteta's charges took to the pitch wearing their black third kit.

As the away team, Arsenal were expected to wear their traditional red shirts, but the change was made following a request by the Premier League.

Why are Arsenal wearing black against Tottenham?

The Gunners were told in midweek they would have to wear black after a ruling from the the Premier League’s refereeing body (PGMOL).

The reason for the move was based on Arsenal's home shirt being deemed as "too white" and clashes with Spurs’ home kit.

The visitors had reportedly offered to switch to red shorts for this game, as has been the case in the past, but that was rejected by the PGMOL.

The trip to Tottenham is Arsenal's second EPL appearance in black this season after wearing the kit in the 2-0 win away at Aston Villa on August 24.
