TEAM NEWS: Shaw and Rooney start for Manchester United vs Bournemouth image

Jose Mourinho has handed Luke Shaw his first Premier League start for Manchester United since October as the Red Devils seek to move into the top four by defeating Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Flat-track bully Pogba out to impress

Shaw had been suffering from a groin injury but has been fit for several weeks, only to be left on the periphery by the Portuguese manager. However, he will have the chance to shine in the first kick-off of the English top flight this weekend.

Wayne Rooney also starts for the first time since announcing he would stay with the club despite offers from the Chinese Super League. He will play behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attack in what is his first league start of 2017.

Elsewhere there are changes in central defence, with Marcos Rojo and the fit-again Phil Jones rekindling their partnership at the cost of Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling, while Ander Herrera drops to the bench to allow Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick to link up at the base of midfield.

For Bournemouth, Jack Wilshere starts on the bench as Benik Afobe and Josh King lead the attack in search of a first win of the calendar year.

The Cherries' biggest doubt for this game was manager Eddie Howe, who has been ill over the last 24 hours. He is expected to take his place on the bench as usual but has been steering clear of his players in order to avoid spreading his bug.
