Tottenham defender Emerson Royal is set to seal a move to AC Milan early next week, according to reports in Italy.

It is a month since Gazzetta dello Sport claimed Emerson had agreed personal terms with the Rossoneri. Now Tuttosport and Tuttomercatoweb believe the deal could be wrapped up in the next 48 hours for a fee in the region of €15million ($16.4m), plus add-ons of between €1-2m.

It represents a middle ground between Milan’s desire for a bargain and Spurs’ initial asking price of a flat €18m.

Emerson, capped 10 times for Brazil, is contracted to Tottenham until 2026. He joined the north London club three years ago during Nuno Espirito Santo’s brief time in charge and has chalked up 101 appearances, scoring four times.

The 25-year-old was a regular contributor under Ange Postecoglou last season and even filled in at centre-back during a mid-season injury crisis.

However, half of Emerson’s 22 Premier League appearances in 2023/24 came from the bench and seven outings after the turn of the year were set against 11 games as an unused substitute.

Pedro Porro established himself as Postecoglou’s first choice at right-back — a factor that contributed to Emerson missing out on Brazil’s Copa America squad despite playing 90 minutes in back-to-back World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina at the end of 2023.
