Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their rumoured transfer interest of Real Sociedad star Takefusa Kubo.
New Reds boss Arne Slot is still assessing his squad options during preseason but the Dutch coach is expected to strengthen in the weeks ahead.
Kubo was reportedly identified by Liverpool as an option to provide a crucial link between midfield and attack on the back of a strong season in Spain.

The Japanese international netted seven La Liga goals, and laid on four assists, as La Real finished sixth in the table.
Kubo extended his contract in the Basque Country at the start of 2024, with his current deal running until 2029, and an expected transfer value of around €50m ($55m).
However, despite Liverpool's potential interest, Real Sociedad club president Jokin Aperribay told an interview with Mundo Deportivo they have no plans to sell the 23-year-old.
"There is no issue. There are no negotiations with any club. We’re in the market, anything can happen, but Take is very happy here and he’s going to continue. We love him very much, let’s hope he stays at La Real forever", he said.
Liverpool will continue to scan the market for transfer options with their preseason USA tour kicking off against Real Betis on July 26 in Pittsburgh.
