Napoli have put Manchester United's resolve to the test by submitting a €25 million (£21m/$28m) offer for midfielder Scott McTominay.
However, the Red Devils are holding out for a higher fee, reportedly seeking at least £25 million ($33m) for the Scotland international.
According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli are in the market for a new midfielder and have zeroed in on two top targets: Scott McTominay from United and Billy Gilmour from Brighton & Hove Albion.

While the Italian giants have made their move for McTominay with a £21 million ($28m) bid, United are playing hardball, insisting on a higher price.
McTominay, who has been with United since his debut in the 2016/17 season, enjoyed his best goal-scoring campaign last term, netting 10 times.
Despite his contributions, United appear open to selling him as they look to raise funds through player sales. The 27-year-old's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, although there is an option to extend it for an additional year.
Napoli's interest is serious, but they might face competition from other clubs, with McTominay also linked to Galatasaray and Tottenham.
The midfielder came off the bench in United's 1-0 victory over Fulham in their Premier League opener, while the Scotsman was also a second-half substitute in the late 2-1 defeat to Brighton.
