Manchester United have shifted their focus to Burnley's standout midfielder Sander Berge after deciding against pursuing Paris Saint-Germain's Manuel Ugarte due to high valuation concerns.
For several weeks, Manchester United have been eyeing Uruguay international Manuel Ugarte, who has garnered significant attention following his impressive performances for Sporting CP.
Despite PSG's willingness to negotiate, their asking price of €60 million (£51.4/$65.5m) for Ugarte has proven too steep for United.
With no progress made on Ugarte's transfer, United have turned their attention to alternative targets. One name that has emerged is Sander Berge, Burnley's Norwegian midfielder.

Man United exploring other midfield options including Sander Berge
According to The Athletic, Manchester United officials have contacted Berge's representatives to discuss a potential move. Berge, who joined Burnley from Sheffield United for £12 million ($15.3m) last summer, quickly became one of Burnley's top performers.
Known for his dribbling skills, accurate passing under pressure, and impressive speed—hitting a top speed of 35.90 km/h—Berge has caught the eye of United's scouting team.
Burnley manager Vincent Kompany praised Berge's abilities last season, saying, "He's an intelligent footballer, with a great eye for a pass and the ability to run with the ball. He also has a strength and physicality that will be invaluable in the Premier League."
In addition to Berge, United have several other midfielders on their list. Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, who shone during Spain's Euro 2024-winning campaign, tops the list. Dutch midfielder Joey Veerman and PSG's Adrien Rabiot are also being considered as potential signings.
The coming weeks will reveal if Berge makes the move to Old Trafford or if United will secure one of their other targets.
