Manchester United defender Will Fish will remain at the club after suffering torn ligaments, ruling out a potential transfer.
The 21-year-old centre-back, who has drawn interest from Championship clubs, was injured during United’s 3-0 pre-season defeat to Liverpool in South Carolina.
Fish’s injury, sustained shortly after coming on as a substitute, has sidelined him for up to five weeks. United manager Erik ten Hag was visibly concerned as he checked on the young defender on the pitch.
Fortunately, a scan revealed that Fish did not suffer a fracture, and the prognosis is better than initially feared.

Injury setback changes United’s plans
Before the injury, United had planned to keep Fish as cover due to a series of setbacks in their defensive line. New signing Leny Yoro is out until November with a fractured metatarsal, and United recently sold Willy Kambwala and released Raphael Varane.
These developments left United short at centre-back, making Fish an essential part of the squad, at least for now.
United’s defensive struggles have been evident during their pre-season tour. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans all dealt with injuries or illness, further complicating Ten Hag’s plans.
As a result, Fish’s future at the club remains secure, with his contract set to expire next year, although United has the option to extend it for another year.
United's pursuit of defensive reinforcements continues, with bids for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite rejected and interest in Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Fish, who spent the last two seasons on loan at Hibernian, will focus on his recovery and hopes to contribute to United’s campaign once fit.
As the squad regroups ahead of the Community Shield clash against Manchester City, Ten Hag’s determination to manage every detail is evident. The Dutchman returned to Carrington to reconnect with players returning from international duty, demonstrating his commitment to ensuring United are prepared for the challenges ahead.
