Pep Guardiola is reportedly plotting a late raid in the final days of the Premier League transfer window ahead of the August 30 deadline.

The Manchester City boss has opted against lavish summer signings as he remains confident over his squad's ability to retain their EPL title in 2025.

The former Barcelona coach signed Brazilian winger Savinho from Troyes and completed a bold move to re-sign former captain Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer from his old club.

That pattern of small tweaks is expected to continue in the final days of the window, as he looks to bring in cover for Erling Haaland following Julian Alvarez's move to Atletico Madrid.

Alvarez's 20 Premier League goals across the past two seasons placed him third in City's goal list in each campaign, behind Haaland and Phil Foden.

Those goals need to be replaced, and Guardiola prefers a developing forward, rather than an expensive and experienced campaigner.

Reports from The Athletic indicate Iceland international Orri Oskarsson is the main option after Celtic rejected their approach for Kyogo Furuashi.

A tall and powerful Nordic striker already has City fans drawing comparisons to Haaland, and the 19-year-old enjoyed a strong breakthrough season at FC Copenhagen in 2023/24, with 10 league goals.

The main stumbling block to a deal could be Copenhagen's demand for a £16.9 million  ($22.4 million) up-front transfer fee, with City preferring a loan-to-buy agreement.
