Wigan Athletic have secured the return of Liverpool defender Luke Chambers on a season-long loan.
The 20-year-old impressed during his previous loan stint with the League One club, scoring once in 18 appearances. Chambers, who has also featured for Liverpool in their pre-season tour in the United States, is excited to be back.
"The style of football that we play is the best step for my development," Chambers told Wigan’s website.
"I love everything about the club - the fans, my teammates, the manager, and the backroom staff - and it was an easy choice. It’s a really exciting project for the season and hopefully we can push on for promotion."

Impressive resume and strong connection with Wigan
Chambers, who hails from Preston, already boasts an impressive CV despite his young age. A European Champion with England at the U19 level, Chambers was part of Liverpool’s first-team squad during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign.
He quickly caught the eye of legendary manager Jürgen Klopp, making his debut for the Reds against Leicester City in September and playing in three UEFA Europa League matches. Chambers also made his debut for England’s U20 team against Italy and Germany.
Chambers joined Wigan in January, attracted by the club’s ethos of promoting young talent. He made an immediate impact, debuting against Northampton Town and quickly becoming a key player. Operating both as a left wing-back and a left centre-back, Chambers helped Wigan avoid relegation and secure a mid-table finish.
He won the Christophe Duchamp Player of the Month award for February and scored his first professional goal at Portsmouth.
Despite only being with Wigan for a short period, Chambers developed a strong bond with the club, which played a significant role in his decision to return.
