Even though Everton's transfer window has started off well — bringing in Tim Iroegbunam, Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Harrison (on loan) — their business is far from done.

The Toffees have already sold Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey, which got them on the safe side of the Premier League's profit and sustainability (PSR) rules, and Amadou Onana's imminent £50 million move to Aston Villa will give them some more funds to reinforce their squad.

Sean Dyche is aiming to bring in a new midfielder to replace Onana, and Juventus star Arthur Melo has emerged as a surprise name who could be in the frame to make the switch to Goodison Park.

Melo, 27, was part of a swap deal that saw Miralem Pjanic head to Barcelona in 2020, but has so far failed to make an impact with the Bianconeri.

Arthur failed to establish himself as a first-team regular in his first two seasons in Turin, and then suffered a string of injuries that interrupted his 2022/23 season on loan with Liverpool.

Another loan spell with Fiorentina proved more successful, but the club opted not to turn that into a permanent deal.

Arthur now looks likely to exit the club this summer and according to Tuttosport journalist Nicolo Schira, several English clubs are interested in giving him the chance to return to the Premier League.

Everton are reportedly leading the race race for his signature, but could face competition from Newcastle and Wolves, with a deal of around £12.5 million believed to be enough to get the move over the line.
