Gallagher embraces new adventure in Spain
The former Chelsea star is eager to embrace the challenges that come with playing in a different country. "The whole thing really excites me: not just playing for this massive club but living in a different country, a different city, [with] a different language. All these things really excite me and my partner. I need to learn Spanish quickly, and it is something I am looking forward to. The culture is very different from London, the way of life, but I love it."
Gallagher also revealed that his England team-mate Kieran Trippier played a crucial role in convincing him to make the move. Trippier, who spent three years at Atletico and won the La Liga title in the 2020-21 season, gave glowing reviews of the club.
"We were at the Euros together for a couple of months, so I spent a lot of time with him," Gallagher explained. "He only had amazing things to say about the club, the manager, the players, the city, the whole thing. He was very complimentary about it, which made it very easy for me."
Gallagher could make his debut for Atletico as they face Girona in their second La Liga fixture of the season. Fans will be eager to see how the Englishman fits into Diego Simeone's plans.
