Chelsea fans are outraged after the club released a tribute video for Conor Gallagher following his permanent move to Atletico Madrid.
The midfielder, who joined Chelsea’s academy at eight years old, has signed a five-year deal with the Spanish giants in a transfer worth £36 million ($47m).
However, the tribute video has left many supporters feeling betrayed and frustrated with the club’s new ownership.
The video, which highlights Gallagher’s best moments in a Chelsea shirt, was meant to celebrate his time at the club. But for many fans, it felt like a disingenuous farewell.

Fans unhappy with Chelsea’s new direction
Chelsea supporters took to social media to express their anger, accusing the club’s owners of prioritizing profits over loyalty to homegrown talent. One fan called the owners "clowns," while others echoed similar sentiments, lamenting the club’s recent trend of selling academy players for financial gain.
Despite playing in almost every Premier League game last season, Gallagher was informed by new manager Enzo Maresca that he wouldn’t be a regular starter this season.
Coupled with a less-than-satisfactory contract offer, the 24-year-old England international decided it was time to move on from his boyhood club.
Gallagher’s departure marks Atletico Madrid’s fourth major signing of the summer, pushing their total spending past the £150 million ($195m) mark. The move also paves the way for Atletico’s former loanee, Joao Felix, to potentially return to Chelsea on a permanent basis.

In his farewell message to Chelsea fans, Gallagher expressed his gratitude, saying, “To everyone at Chelsea, thank you for making my dreams come true. It’s been an absolute honor every time I put on the shirt. I loved every moment, and these memories will last forever.”
Despite his heartfelt message, the club’s decision to sell him has left a bitter taste for many supporters.
As Gallagher embarks on a new chapter with Atletico Madrid, where he’s already begun training, Chelsea fans are left to wonder about the club’s future direction under its current ownership.
