Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who joined the club for a hefty $108 million, has opened up about his struggles and determination to prove himself as he enters his second season in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old Ukrainian international, who moved to Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, admits that fans have yet to see his best performance.

Mudryk’s transition to life in London and the Premier League has been anything but smooth. The young player faced the challenges of adapting to a new club, a new country, and a new level of competition, all while dealing with the emotional weight of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Despite these difficulties, Mudryk remains focused on improving his game and showing his full potential.

Mudryk's determination to succeed

“People haven’t seen the best of me,” Mudryk said in a recent interview. “There is still a lot more to come. I do a lot of hard work on and off the pitch. Sometimes you want something so bad, but only at the right time will it happen.”

Mudryk emphasized the importance of finding balance in his approach to the game, stating that success comes when one finds the right balance between trying too hard and not trying enough. He is confident that, with time, Chelsea fans will see the best of him.

As Mudryk prepares for the new season, he is optimistic about working under Chelsea’s new head coach, Enzo Maresca. The winger believes that Maresca’s playing style, which emphasizes wingers staying high and wide, will suit his strengths and help him perform at his best.

“I’m enjoying it because our playing style is very similar to what everyone, and me as well, wants to play,” Mudryk said. “We can show our quality under his coaching.”

While Mudryk is determined to succeed, he remains focused on the team’s goals rather than setting personal targets. “I don’t want to make any prediction for myself,” he added. “I just focus on team goals, our goals, and working hard, staying patient, keep believing, and success will be waiting for us.”

As the new Premier League campaign begins, Chelsea fans might have an eye on Mudryk as he looks to fulfil the promise that led Chelsea to invest so heavily in his talent.
