The Chilean came on for the second half as Arsenal pulled a goal back through Danny Welbeck, but they could not find that all important equaliser before Georginio Wijnaldum converted for Liverpool late on.
Arsenal's defeat means they have failed to win any of their last 11 away games against the other sides currently in the top six (Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United).
Wenger's charges have conceded nine times during their trips to Chelsea, Liverpool, City and United combined this term, with a visit to Tottenham still to come on 30 April.
