Arsenal have reportedly made significant progress in their long-standing pursuit of Bologna's Italian star, Riccardo Calafiori.
According to The Athletic, the Gunners have re-engaged in talks with Bologna and are nearing the completion of a deal that has been in negotiation for several weeks.
The transfer fee for the 22-year-old defender is expected to be between €50-€54 million (£42m/$54.5m to £45.5m/$59m). While some bonus details are still being discussed, both clubs are optimistic about finalizing the agreement soon.

Juventus withdraw, Arsenal move ahead for Riccardo Calafiori
Earlier in the transfer window, Juventus were also interested in signing Calafiori. However, they withdrew from the race after Bologna increased their asking price. This left Arsenal as the leading contender for the Italy defender's signature.
Calafiori has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Arsenal, which include a five-year contract. The Gunners are hopeful to finalize the transfer before their preseason tour to the United States on Sunday.
Bologna acquired Calafiori from Basel for £3.4 million ($4.4 million) last summer, and the Swiss club are entitled to 50 per cent of any profit from his sale.
Mikel Arteta sees Calafiori as a crucial addition to the squad. The defender can play both as a centre-back and as a full-back, allowing him to move into midfield when needed.
With both clubs apparently close to a total agreement, Calafiori's move to Arsenal seems imminent. The next few days will be key as final details are ironed out before the player flies to London for his medical.
