Arsenal have been given a boost in their pursuit of midfielder Mikel Merino, with Real Sociedad prepared to sell under the right conditions.
The Gunners have been linked with a bid for the Spain international, who was part of the victorious side at Euro 2024 and has impressed in La Liga since returning to his homeland from Newcastle United in 2018.
Mikel Arteta has seen his squad strengthened by the arrival of defender Riccado Calafiori, and last season's Premier League runners-up are expected to make more signings before the transfer window closes.
Merino has long been one of their reported targets, and Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has admitted the club could be forced into a sale if the 28-year-old does not decide to sign a new contract.

Real Sociedad could sell Merino if he does not extend contract
"We are aware that Merino has offers," he said, as per Mundo Deportivo.
"The conversation with him and those around him has been very sincere and hopefully his decision is to stay. He already knows that we want him to stay.
"He has had a renewal offer for some time. And if not, we will try to negotiate the best way out for Real.
"The club has to look to the future, try to be stronger every year or every day. You don't have to hide behind a contract when a player tells you that he wants to take advantage of an opportunity. Daily work makes us stronger."
