Two of the top teams in men’s college lacrosse meet when No. 2 Virginia hosts No. 8 Johns Hopkins on Saturday, writing another chapter in one of the best rivalries in the sport.

The Cavaliers (3-0) have thus far survived a difficult early season slate, mounting wins over three ranked opponents: No. 13 Michigan, No. 14 Richmond and then-No. 20 Ohio State.

Four Virginia players have already tallied over 10 points on the season, including team captain Connor Shellenberger, who has 14 points. Freshman attack Millon McCabe, the No. 1 overall prospect, has also made a standout first impression, with a team-high 15 points.

The Blue Jays (4-1) have ripped off four straight wins after a season-opening overtime loss to No. 4 Denver. Johns Hopkins has defeated two ranked teams: No. 11 Georgetown and No. 18 North Carolina.

Graduate attack Jacob Angelus has a team-high 24 points and 12 assists, while graduate attack Garrett Degnon leads the way with 13 goals.

Virginia has taken the last three games against Hopkins, including an 18-13 victory last March. The Blue Jays lead the all-time series, 51-32, dating back to the first matchup in 1955.
