The 2024 Olympics are coming to Paris this summer. Athletes from all over the world travel to one location to compete for the ultimate bragging rights. Some sports vary on the year and interest level. After a brief hiatus, wrestling will return to the Olympics.
Wrestling has had a long history at the Olympics. It was removed from the Olympics in 2013, only to be reinstated following criticism of the decision and International Olympic Committee leadership. The United States, with over 130 medals in the sport, will look to take over in 2024.
There will be a trial event from April 19-20 to determine the lineup for Team USA. Penn State, home to the top wrestling school in the country, will host the event. Multiple weight classes compete in four sessions, with over 190 athletes looking to make their mark.
Who will prove they are the best, qualify for a spot in Paris, and represent the United States?

USA wrestling team Olympics qualifying
There are 18 different weight classes (six each for Greco-Roman, men's freestyle, and women's freestyle). Each country is limited to one athlete per class. To qualify, there are three phases. Each phase is to earn quota spots for the country, not the athlete.
The upcoming USA Trials are part of the Phase Two qualification phase: Continental Qualification Tournaments.
From February to April, there are multiple continental tournaments to decide Olympic qualifiers. The top-two athletes in each weight class will earn quota spots for the Olympics.
Wrestlers competing in the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials who have already earned a quota spot will be part of the Olympic team in Paris. The Trial winners will go to Phase Three of qualifying in May to secure quota spots: the World Qualification Tournament.
