Three members of the University of Wyoming swimming and diving team died in a car crash Thursday afternoon in Colorado.
The crash occurred on U.S. 287 in northern Colorado near the Wyoming-Colorado border, according a statement from the University of Wyoming.
Charlie Clark, 19, Carson Muir, 18, and Luke Slabber, 21, died in the single-car crash after the driver swerved and the Toyota RAV4 veered off the road, then rolled multiple times, ESPN reported. The accident was being investigated.
Muir was a freshman on the women's team from Birmingham, Alabama, while Clark, a sophomore from Las Vegas, and Slabber, a junior from Cape Town, South Africa, were on the men's team.
The crash also injured two other members of the men's team, a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old. Both were taken to the hospital for further evaluation, but the university said their injuries are "not life-threatening."
"We are heartsick at the news of this terrible tragedy for our university, our state, our student-athlete community and, most importantly, the families and friends of these young people," University of Wyoming President Ed Seidel said. "Words are insufficient to express our sadness."

In 2001, a crash on the same highway killed eight members of the University of Wyoming cross-country team.
