If Florida has any chance at nabbing its second national championship in program history, it will need the help of star gymnast Trinity Thomas.
Thomas, a fifth-year senior, is the NCAA's reigning all-around champion. She's also a key cog in the Gators, the No. 2-ranked team in the country.
Thomas left last round's Pittsburgh regional abruptly after suffering a lower-leg injury during her floor routine. She was listed as day-to-day after the meet, but did not take part in Florida's regional final. Fortunately for Florida, Thomas' teammates were able to step up, posting a 197.8000 score to nab a spot in the NCAA semifinals this week in Fort Worth, Texas.

With the weekend's meets looming, Thomas' injury status is a bit murky. She's still considered day-to-day, according to coach Jenny Rowland. But although her condition is improving, it's no certainty that she'll be ready in time for the big day.
"She's definitely getting better," Rowland said this week, via the Gainesville Sun. "It is still a day-to-day basis and we're just doing what we can to protect her to get her healthy and we'll see if she's in a position to go forward."
