Ryder Cup 2014: Bradley's passion earned him spot, Watson says image

Tom Watson said Wednesday that Keegan Bradley's passion was a key factor in his wild-card selection for the United States Ryder Cup team.

Bradley secured one of Watson's three captain's picks alongside Hunter Mahan and Webb Simpson for the event, which tees off at Gleneagles later this month.

The 2011 PGA Championship winner made his Ryder Cup bow in 2012 as Europe pulled off the "Miracle of Medinah".

Bradley won three foursomes alongside Phil Mickelson, but went down 2 and 1 to Rory McIlroy as Europe turned the competition on its head on the Sunday.

Watson suggested Bradley and Mickelson would once again link up, but called on the 28-year-old to keep morale high in the U.S. camp.

"Keegan is the epitome of someone who wanted to be on the team," Watson said.

"He wanted to make the team so bad. The amount of pressure he put on himself is one of reasons I picked him.

"He can hit it a long way, he can go real low and he certainly teams up great with Phil Mickelson.

"Most important is his unbridled passion to play on the Ryder Cup team.

"Keegan has the kind of desire that can carry our team in a big way, the same way (Europe's Ian) Poulter has the ability to carry their team a long way."
