Ryan Lochte will miss the swimming's world championships in Budapest next year after being banned 10 months for his part in the false robbery scandal during the Rio Olympic Games.

The United States Olympic Committee and USA Swimming announced Thursday that Lochte will serve a 10-month ban, which will end on June 30, 2017. Lochte will not receive gold medal bonuses that could amount to $100,000. He also must carry out 20 hours of community service.

U.S. teammates Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen, who were involved in the incident, received four-month suspensions that run through the end of 2016. Bentz must perform 10 hours of community service for violating a USA Swimming curfew for athletes under age 21.

None of the four swimmers will be permitted to attend a White House visit honoring U.S. Olympians. All will forfeit monthly stipends and access to USOC training centers during their bans.

Lochte, 32, initially alleged that he was robbed at gunpoint along with his teammates at a gas station after attending a party in Brazil last month.

Brazilian law enforcement official charged Lochte with making a false statement after admitting he had "over-exaggerated" his story. Lochte apologized for his "immature behavior."
