Two of the top teams in men’s college lacrosse square off when No. 6 Notre Dame hosts No. 3 Maryland on Saturday.

The Terrapins and Fighting Irish will look for an encore after last year’s thrilling triple-overtime matchup, an instant classic that saw No. 2 Notre Dame top No. 4 Maryland, 13-12.

The teams are just as formidable a year later. The Terrapins (4-0) have defeated four ranked opponents in succession: Richmond, Loyola, Syracuse and Princeton. Junior Eric Spanos shined in Saturday’s win over the Tigers, notching a career-high four goals and five points; senior Eric Malever also tied a career-high with five points.

The Fighting Irish (2-1) suffered their first loss of the year in a heartbreaker on Sunday, falling to No. 11 Georgetown, 11-10, in overtime. The defeat sunk Notre Dame from its mark as the top-ranked team in the nation.

The Kavanagh brothers have anchored the Fighting Irish through the season’s first three games. Pat leads the team with 15 points and 12 assists, while Chris is not far behind, touting 13 points and eight goals.
