Golf hardly ever crosses over with track and field, but that was the case in Budapest on Thursday.
Two golf carts carrying competitors in the 200m men's race at the 2023 Track and Field World Championships reportedly crashed before the event, leading to a delay in the start of the semifinals.
One of the athletes involved was American sprinter Noah Lyles. The 26-year-old was not harmed in the accident, however he was forced to compete later than expected due to the incident.
Lyles, who recently won gold in the 100m race, is the defending 200m men's champion at Worlds. The native of Gainesville, Fla., is aiming to win back-to-back golds for the first time at the international competition.

As a result of the crash, the first heat of the race, which involved Lyles, was delayed. The second heat of the race ultimately started first, followed by the third heat, and then the personnel in the first heat ran last.
According to NBC's Lewis Johnson, up to four athletes were seen by medical staff, as well as the volunteer thrown from the cart. Lyles was not included in the group that was checked for injuries.
Jamaican sprinter Andrew Hudson reportedly was treated for small fragments of glass in his eye. He was in one of the carts during the crash.
Lyles went on to finish first in the heat with a time of 19.76 seconds, the fastest out of the three heats. Hudson finished fifth in his heat at 20.38, the 14th-fastest time overall, but race officials added him to the finals due to the circumstances.
