The University of Toronto and Maryville University of St. Louis met in the 2017 League of Legends College Championship Final on Sunday, with Maryville completing a come-from-behind victory. Maryville became both the first team from the U.S. and the first scholarship varsity esports program to win the championship.
After falling behind 1-0 in the best-of-five final, Maryville won three consecutive games, capped by a championship-clinching Game 4 victory that featured a Pentakill by Cody "Walrus" Altman.

Eight teams advanced to the League of Legends College Championship, which kicked off Thursday in Los Angeles. Toronto defeated Carnegie Mellon University 3-1 in one semifinal while Maryville swept Robert Morris University of Illinois 3-0 on the other side of the bracket.

What teams advanced to the League of Legends College Championship?
The eight teams that advanced to the League of Legends College Championship Final were decided by regional tournaments. Five regional tournament winners (Big Ten, North, South, East, West) advanced to LA, along with three teams that placed second in their respective regional tournaments before playing in a round-robin, wild-card tournament to secure their championship berths.
Texas A&M, Carnegie Mellon, the University of Toronto, Simon Fraser University, Maryville University, the University of British Columbia, Maryland and Robert Morris (Ill.) qualified for the championship. Toronto and Maryville met in the finals.
