Amir Khan's camp has rebuffed claims the former world light-welterweight champion is set for a showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Reports in the English media had suggested that the Bolton-born Khan had cancelled a December bout with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander in order to become the next man to take on the undefeated Mayweather.
Khan has a career record of 28-3 and won back-to-back fights against Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz after a controversial loss to Lamont Petersen -- which saw him lose the WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles -- and a one-sided stoppage loss to Danny Garcia.
Mayweather -- who is 45-0 -- is seeking his next opponent after outclassing Saul Alvarez last month. He has fought one fighter from Britain in his career, Ricky Hatton, whom he dismantled in December 2007 in Las Vegas.
Olympic silver medalist Khan has long been mentioned as a future opponent for Mayweather, but his management has insisted that there are no plans to meet the American.
A statement read: "Team Khan would like to dispel recent reports that Amir Khan has pulled out of a potential match-up against Devon Alexander on December 7th, taking up a fight against Floyd Mayweather in May of next year instead.
"Contrary to this story, Amir Khan is currently in training camp in San Francisco with the aim of fighting again in December against Alexander once an agreement can be reached."
