USA Olympic gymnastics trials results, highlights: Simone Biles, Hezly Rivera chosen for Paris team image

After one of the most hectic weeks in American gymnastics, five are headed to Paris to compete at the Olympics.

It came down to the wire as one of the closest competitions fans could've asked for. In the end, it was the top five all-around finishers who were chosen.

Simone Biles, who automatically clinched a spot with the highest all-around score, is headed to her third Olympics. She'll join reigning gold medalist Suni Lee, one of the first times two Olympic all-around champions will compete on the same team. For the Minneapolis native, it's an unbelievable comeback after temporarily retiring from the sport a year ago with kidney issues. Lee finished second in the all-around.

They'll be joined by Tokyo teammates Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles. The silver team medalists are back and better than ever, looking more confident and crisp in their routines.

Rounding out the team of five is Hezly Rivera, a 16-year-old star. The gymnast rose to the occasion at trials, finishing fifth in a close all-around race. While young, she excels on beam and bars, right where the U.S. needs her.

Joscelyn Roberson and Leanne Wong will be the traveling alternates after finishing sixth and seventh in Minneapolis.

The quest for gold officially begins now.

USA Olympic gymnastics trials live results, highlights from Day 4

All times Eastern.

10:50 p.m. – The 2024 Paris Olympic team is Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, Hezly Rivera, Suni Lee and Simone Biles. Traveling alternates are Leanne Wong and Joscelyn Roberson.

10:21 p.m. – Now, we wait. Simone Biles gets the automatic berth, winning all-around, but four spots remain up for grabs. Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera round out the top 5.

10:20 p.m. – What better way to finish the competition than with Jade Carey on floor? The reigning Olympic floor champion closes out the night with a 14.150.

10:08 p.m. – What a fight. Rivera puts up a massive 14.200 on vault while Roberson finishes with an emotional 13.925 on floor. Only 0.175 separate the two in the all-around standings. It's anybody's game.

9:50 p.m. – Simone Biles, pack your bags. You're headed to your third Olympic Games. The great finishes her trials with a 14.725 on floor, bringing her night's total to 58.325.

9:35 p.m. – Joscelyn Roberson isn't giving up! She puts up a beast of a beam routine for a 14.050.

9:21 p.m. – Biles will also count a fall on beam today. At least it's all smiles this time.

9:10 p.m. – Halfway through, it's the Tokyo four that lead the all-around with Rivera sitting in fifth.

9:00 p.m. – Hezly. Rivera. Wow. On perhaps her most important routine of the night, the 16-year-old attacks the beam for a solid showing. She gets a 14.275.

8:55 p.m. – After a huge bars routine, Lee has a disappointing showing on beam. She falls on her layout-stepout mount and has a near fall on her acro series later. An uncharacteristic performance but shouldn't affect her chances at the team given her strong history on the event. It's a 12.825.

8:43 p.m. – Right when she needed it most. Leanne Wong hits her beam routine after a few wobbles on Friday. She earns a huge 13.650.

8:27 p.m. – That's a Suni Lee stick! The Minneapolis native starts her night with a phenomenal routine on bars, earning a 14.875.

8:18 p.m. – There's no stopping Jordan Chiles tonight.

8:08 p.m. – Huge starts for the young seniors Tiana Sumanasekera and Hezly Rivera. Sumanasekera gets 14.350 on vault, Rivera a 14.300 on bars.

8:06 p.m. – It all starts now. Half the athletes will begin on vault, the other half on bars.

7:53 p.m. – Nothing but the greats in support of today's best.

7:45 p.m. – Nine years later, they're competing alongside each other for a shot at the Olympics. How time flies.

7:15 p.m. – Beacon is ready for the final day of competition.
