When it was his turn to go, the final performance in the event, he took off his glasses and went to work. When his routine ended, the crowd erupted, and the U.S. won its first bronze medal in gymnastics in the last four Olympic games. Tess McCracken was born in 1998 in Plano, Texas. She grew up in Texas and started gymnastics at a young age. According to her bio on Penn State's website, McCracken excelled at the sport and was a three-time qualifier for the Junior Olympic Nationals. Despite being from Texas, she said that when she visited Penn State, it just "felt right."
McCracken spent four years competing for the Nittany Lions. She graduated in 2020, but then stayed at Penn State to get her Master's in Biotechnology. When McCracken decided to pursue her graduate degree, she penned a goodbye to gymnastics on her Instagram.
