The best 24 male and 24 female surfers will try for Olympic glory when the second-ever surf event at the Olympics takes place at Teahupo’o, Tahiti.
Carissa Moore (USA) is the reigning women's champion and will be hoping to add a second medal to her collection. She's the only returning medalist and will be joined by fellow Americans Caity Simmers and Caroline Marks.
Tahitian native Vahine Fierro, along with the host country's Johanne Defay, Molly Picklum from Australia and Costa Rica’s Brisa Hennessy, will be favorites to challenge for the gold.
John Florence and Griffin Colapinto will be trying to bring home the first men's gold medal to American soil. The competition is stiff, as Brazil, the home of Tokyo gold medalist Italo Ferreira, sends a roster featuring multi-time world champion Gabriel Medina and two-time champion Filipe Toledo.
