Olympics 100-meter women's final results: Saint Lucia's Julien Alfred beats out Sha'Carri Richardson for gold image

For the first time, Saint Lucia has an Olympic medalist  and it happened on one of the biggest stages of the Summer Games.

All eyes were on Team USA star Sha'Carri Richardson entering the women's 100m semifinals Saturday, but it was Julien Alfred who ran a blazing 10.84 and posted the best time of anyone across the three heats.

While some speculated Richardson was saving her best for the final, Alfred was as well. The 23-year-old turned up the jets and ran a 10.72 in the final, easily outpacing Richardson to win gold.

The U.S. still walked away with two medals, with Richardson earning silver and Melissa Jefferson taking bronze, but no one was able to keep up with the University of Texas' Alfred on a rainy night in Paris.

The Sporting News tracked complete results, updates and highlights from the women's 100m track final at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Check out what you might have missed below.

(All times Eastern)

3:23 p.m. — SAINT LUCIA'S JULIAN ALFRED WINS GOLD! She had the lead just about the entire way, and it wasn't very close. Sha'Carri Richardson wins silver, Melissa Jefferson wins bronze, but Team USA does not meet its goal.

3:10 p.m. — Fraser-Pryce hasn't given a reason for her exit, but it might not be tied to her apparent struggles to get into the venue earlier in the day.

2:11 p.m. — 19-year-old Tia Clayton matches Richardson's time of 10.89 in her semifinal and qualifies for the final along with U.K.'s Daryll Neita. Twanisha Terry performs well enough to narrowly secure a spot in the final as well.

Here's the field for the final:

  • Sha'Carri Richardson (USA)
  • Tia Clayton (Jamaica)
  • Daryll Neita (Great Britain)

2:04 p.m. — Sha'Carri Richardson (10.89) finishes behind Julien Alfred (10.84), but she's through to the final.

1:56 p.m. — USA's Melissa Jefferson runs a 10.99 in the first semifinal heat and qualifies for the final along with Ivory Coast's Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith.

1:30 p.m. — The semifinals are set to get underway in about 25 minutes at 1:55 p.m. ET. Sha'Carri Richardson will be in the second heat alongside Julien Alfred.
