Noah Lyles 200 meter results, final time: American star breaks Olympic trial record to punch ticket to Paris image

Noah Lyles moved one step closer to Olympic immortality during Saturday's 200m finals, using a sudden burst in the final 20m to punch his ticket into the Paris Olympics...again.

The 26-year-old had already clinched a spot in the global sports' most iconic event after laying waste to his adversaries across 100m. He's even better across double the distance, capturing three straight world championships in the event.

You'd be forgiven to think the result was a foregone conclusion. With three other Olympians in the field, Saturday's race was anything but, however.

Lyles started with a flourish, trotting around the course with elegance. He was soon met with turbulence, however; Kenny Bednarek started even better, pacing out in front. With 20m to go, it seemed as if an upset was brewing.

Then, Lyles turned on the afterburners. Within milliseconds he was out and in front. It was a lead he wouldn't relinquish.

When the dust settled, Lyles, Bednarek, and Erriyon Knighton took their prize as Olympians. Christian Coleman missed out once more, finishing in fourth place, the same spot he did in the 100m.

(All times Eastern)

9:55 p.m.: Lyles blitzes past Bednarek in the final stretch, recording the fastest time in the world this season. Also broke the record for fastest time in an Olympic trial. What can't he do?

9:51 p.m.: Four Olympians in the field — Kenny Bednarek, Christian Coleman, Erriyon Knighton and Lyles. Only three can make it to Paris. Lyles looking about as zen as possible. Although he did just deliver a piercing scream after hearing his name across the loudspeakers.

9:26 p.m.: Lyles arrived at the event in style, sporting a cardigan and...a Yu-Gi-Oh card collector made specially for his arm. He really means business tonight.

9:22 p.m.: If you need a window into what Lyles can do, just check this video out from the yesterday's semifinals.
