USA 100-meter men's final results: Noah Lyles among qualifiers for Paris Olympics with blazing runs image

When the dust settled at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Sunday, Noah Lyles left no doubt who was the fastest man in America.

Lyles outpaced his adversaries on the clay during the 2024 U.S. Olympic trials, posting a scorching 9.83s time to punch his ticket to Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games.

It was just the sort of showing Lyles had visualized countless times before. Three years earlier, Lyles toiled in the event, finishing seventh with a turgid 10.05 time. He vowed things would be different this time around. In the end, he was right.

Lyles fell short of his 9.80 time in the semifinals, the fastest of any competitor in this year's field. It didn't matter, all that much, however, as he was still .04 seconds faster than his nearest competition.

Joining Lyles in the French capital are Kenny Bednarek (9.87) and Fred Kerley (9.88). Christian Coleman, a former Olympian who was barred from the Tokyo Games after missing a drug test, finished in a distant fourth, unable to capitalize on a blazing start that saw him look like the early favorite to take the qualifying crown.

Lyles has to be considered one of the most likely candidates to see his chest covered in a glimmering golden medallion once the Olympics begin. And here's the messed-up thing: he hasn't even run the final of his signature event, the 200m dash, an event in which he has won back-to-back world titles.

USA Olympic track and field trials live updates, highlights from men's 100-meter dash

(All times Eastern)

10:56 p.m.: Coleman misses out on his first Olympic team in seven years. Stunner for the Atlanta native.

10:53 p.m.: Lyles does it! Get it on the backstretch to outpace his foes as he punches his ticket to Paris. Joining him is Bednarek and Kerley on the plane! Coleman, who had an impressive start, falls off towards the end as he falls out of the podium places!

10:52 p.m.: Here we go...

10:50 p.m.: Four Olympians in this field. Only three men can move on. Will it be Kerley, Coleman, Bednarek or Lyles? Or someone else in the field entirely?

10:40 p.m.: Here's a look at the field for tonight's men's 100m final. Some heavy hitters taking the blocks in Eugene tonight:

  • Noah Lyles
  • Kenny Bednarek
  • Christian Coleman
  • Courtney Lindsey
  • Fred Kerley
  • Brandon Hicklin
  • Kendal Williams
  • JT Smith

9:04 p.m.: Easy run from Christian Coleman, who moves into the finals with a blazing 9.86 time. Didn't even look like he broke a sweat. Brandon Hicklin will join him, rounding off the group of finalists. See you in an hour and a half!

9:00 p.m.: Lyles posts a blazing 9.80 time to move on to the finals. He's joined by Kenny Bednarek, who inked a 9.82 finish of his own.

Lyles' showing was packed with plenty of intrigue, as the American standout strutted to the starter's block in pearls and freshly-manicured nails. He also had his trusty Yu-Gi-Oh card, the same one he unveiled to the public with Snoop Dogg's assistance.

8:50 p.m.: Courtney Lindsey outpaces Fred Kerley by a hair to take first-place in their semifinal heat. Kerley finishes second, securing his spot in the final, as well. Lyles is up next. And he's wearing pearls.

8:48 p.m.: Plenty of intrigue in this one, as speedsters Fred Kerley and Noah Lyles lead the charge for 100 meter glory. The first semifinal run is approaching. And it features standout Kerley.
