Few swimmers are guaranteed a spot in the 2024 Olympics, particularly in swimming, but Katie Ledecky is one swimmer who can probably already start planning her trip to Paris.
Ledecky will be competing in her usual distance freestyle events. She might have fallen short of medaling in the 200m free in Tokyo and placed second in the 400m free, but that was all on the international stage. Stateside, she's still the swimmer to beat in both events.
Then there's the true distance races: the 800m and 1500m freestyle races. Ledecky is not only the American swimmer to beat: she's the world record holder in the two races. Her time of 8:04.79 in the 2016 Olympics 800m free and her 15:20.48 from the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series remain the marks to beat for any swimmer in the world.
The competition will be fierce between Ledecky, Australia's Ariarne Titmus, and Canada's Summer McIntosh when they arrive on the international stage, but for now, all Ledecky has to focus on is officially securing her spots on the team.

Is Katie Ledecky swimming tonight?
Ledecky is not swimming on Sunday, June 23. She wrapped up her U.S. Olympic team trials performance Saturday night by placing first in the women's 800m free event. That was her final race of the event.
Which races will Katie Ledecky swim at the Olympics?
Ledecky has finalized her place on both the 200m and 400m free events, though she said she will not compete in the 200m free at the Olympics and will only swim the 4x200m free relay. It is all but a given she will be one of the top two finishers in the 800m and 1500m free races, which are her signature events.
If she places in the top two for any event with an Olympic qualifying time, she will automatically earn a spot in that race in Paris. She would secure a spot on the 4x200m freestyle relay with a top four time in the 200m freestyle.
Here's a breakdown of her performances in this year's Olympic trials:
Event | Place | Time |
200m free | 1st | 1:55.22 |
400m free | 1st | 3:58.35 |
800m free | 1st | 8:14.12 |
1500m free | 1st | 15:37.35 |
