Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has been named in the final three-person shortlist for the FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal of the past 12 months.

The France international's 'scorpion kick' against Crystal Palace in January has been voted by fans as one of their favourites having orginally made a 10-person longlist.

Ironically, Giroud's goal did not gain the same acclaim in England, with his strike not deemed worthy enough to even win the Goal of the Month award for January 2017 as West Ham's Andy Carroll took the prize.

The other nominees are Venezuela's Deyna Castellanos, whose stoppage time strike from the halfway line was voted the best goal of the U-17 Women's World Cup, and a last-minute bicycle kick from South African side Baroka's goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke.

Voting for the winner concludes on October 23, with the prize awarded that evening during The Best FIFA Football Awards in London.

Previous winners of the award include Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, James Rodriguez and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
