Zdeno Chara and the triumph of Russian ingenuity

We know the rooms for the hockey players at the Olympics are not very luxurious. It’s probably not a Sochi-only problem, as Brooks Orpik said earlier today, but hey, a small room in Russia or Canada is still a small room. As long as they have water, toilets and not too many stray dogs, what’s there to complain about?

The beds, if you are Zdeno Chara.

Chara, was the Slovakian flag bearer for the Opening Ceremonies on Friday, is, at 6’9, the tallest player in the NHL. He might be the tallest person at the games. Still, the small room probably wouldn't be a huge deal for him, provided they don't have low ceilings. However, the beds appear to have been made to scale.

While the full length of the bed isn’t shown, it’s hard to imagine it holding a player as tall as Chara. And by all reports, it can’t. Thankfully, according to BostonCBSLocal.com, a solution has been found:

Not sure if that was the original plan or something thought up on the fly, but it’s better than having Chara's feet hang off the end. And if that’s the worst thing that happens to Chara in Sochi, I’d say he’s had a pretty solid Olympics.
