The Winter Classic is always a must-watch during the NHL season. It's a chance for professional players to turn back the clock to their childhoods, playing the game outdoors.

While the game itself is always entertaining, the best part of the annual tradition is without a doubt the jerseys.

The Kraken and Golden Knights are set to play in the 2024 edition of the outdoor contest. It's the first time either franchise gets the chance to participate in the event, and given how new the two organizations are to the NHL, it also provides an opportunity for a new jersey design.

Every year, each participant in the Winter Classic debuts a fresh uniform for the game. There have been plenty of hits since the NHL started the event in 2008, and with two new teams partaking in the event this year, that means two new sweaters are on deck.

Kraken

The Kraken may only be in their third NHL season, but their Winter Classic jerseys have been 100 years in the making.

Seattle is throwing it back with their outdoor sweaters this year, with the design of the jersey an ode to the Seattle Metropolitans, the first professional hockey club in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association from 1915 to 1924. The 1917 Metropolitans were the first team in the United States to win the Stanley Cup.

The barber pole striping on the uniforms pop with colors, as the Kraken utilized their deep sea blue, ice blue and off-white for the base of the jersey. But the best part is undoubtedly the red "S" on the front with "Kraken" inside the borders of the letter, along with the red numbers on the arms.

Golden Knights

Like the Kraken, the Golden Knights haven't been around long in the NHL, currently in the team's seventh year in the league. Unlike Seattle, Vegas does not have any previous teams in the city to pull from, resulting in a brand-new look for the Winter Classic.

Instead of using past jerseys, the Golden Knights created their Winter Classic jerseys by basing the uniform designs off the city itself in the year 1917 — 100 years before the inception of the Golden Knights.

It's a Wild West theme for the Vegas uniforms. The jersey features a vintage white base and heritage gold trim around a "V" on the front that is designed to represent the working-class aura of the old western front.
