What NHL games are on TNT tonight? Time, matchups, how to watch Wednesday's national TV games image

The Wednesday night NHL slate features just two games, but there will be plenty of star power on display in those contests. 

Tonight features a matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and the Washington Capitals in the early spot, with the Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens in the late slot. 

The Oilers and Capitals are two teams eyeing the postseason and have some of the best goal scorers in the game. With Connor McDavid, Leon Draisiatl and Alex Ovechkin all sharing the ice for the game, it's an opportunity to watch three of the top candidates for the NHL Hart Trophy. 

In the late game, it's two non-playoff teams, but it features players that could be moved at the deadline. Canucks forwards J.T. Miller, Brock Boeser and Conor Garland have all been brought up in trade talks and could be going to contenders. For the Canadiens, Ben Chiarot will be one of the best defensemen available to acquire at the deadline.

The matchup between the Oilers and Capitals is set for 8 p.m. ET.

What is each team's record?

Both teams in the early Wednesday contest are sitting right on the edge of the postseason. 

The Oilers enter Wednesday as losers of their last two games, coming off a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Monday. Edmonton is 30-23-4, sitting ninth in the Western Conference, two points out of a playoff spot. 

The Capitals have won their last three games, fresh off a 5-4 win over the Flames on Tuesday. The Caps enter the Wednesday night game with a record of 31-18-9, good for eighth in the Eastern Conference, the final spot to make the postseason.  

Who leads each team in points?

It should come as no surprise that leading the way in points for the Oilers is McDavid and Draisaitl. Both forwards have 79 points entering Wednesday, sharing the league lead in that category. 

Draisaitl's 38 goals this season is tied with New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider for the second-most goals in the NHL this season. McDavid's 50 assists is tied with Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau and Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri for second-most in the league. 

For Washington, it's the Great 8 that has racked up the most points so far this season with 68. Ovechkin has 36 goals, which places him fourth in the league, in addition to 34 assists.

What time is Canucks-Canadiens?

The Canucks-Canadiens game is set to take place at 10:30 p.m. ET.

What is each team's record?

Heading into Wednesday, both the Canucks and Canadiens sit in the bottom half of their respective conferences, however, both teams have been hot as of late. 

Vancouver has won two games in a row and are 7-3-0 in its last 10 games. Most recently, the Canucks handed the Toronto Maple Leafs a 6-4 loss on Sunday. While still on the outside looking in on the postseason picture, the Canucks are just four points behind Nashville for a playoff spot. 

As for Montreal, an abysmal start to the season has the team in the cellar of the Eastern Conference with a record of 15-34-7. However, the team has won seven of its last eight games and are 7-3-0 in its last 10. Nearly half of the Canadiens' wins this season have come in the last two and a half weeks. 

Who leads each team in points?

Miller has been the most productive and consistent scorer for the Canucks this season. He leads the team in goals (22) assists (41) and points (63). He is 11th in the NHL in points, a mark he shares with Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar. 

For the Canadiens, Nick Suzuki is leading the way with 40 points. He is two points shy of surpassing his career-high of 41 points, which he achieved in his two previous seasons in the NHL.
