Viktor Arvidsson may have already scored the goal of the year in the NHL.
Less than four minutes into the Predators' tilt with the New York Islanders on Saturday night, the forward took the puck from his own blue line and entered the attacking zone 1-on-1 with Ryan Pulock. He slid the puck through his own legs, sending Pulock to the ice, and went five-hole on Thomas Greiss to give Nashville a 1-0 lead.
The goal was Arvidsson's first of the year, and it wasn't the last time the 25-year-old winger scored in the game.
With the Predators up 3-2 late in the second period, Mathew Barzal's shot was blocked Anthony Bitetto, who sent the puck up to Arvidsson. He crossed on a give-and-go with Ryan Johansen, who then dropped down the right wing and fed Arvidsson at the bottom of the right circle for the goal far side.
Arvidsson scored 29 times last season to go along with 61 points, tying his career high from the year before.
The Predators also got goals from Mattias Ekholm and Craig Smith in their 4-3 victory.
