It took extra time, but the Canadiens got it done.
Montreal won its season opener on Thursday, beating Buffalo 3-2 in a shootout thanks to Jonathan Drouin.
Drouin scored the lone goal in the shootout to give the Canadiens the win in Buffalo.

The Sabres got on the board first behind Jason Pominville's goal at 8:30 in the opening period. Montreal tied it up 1-1 after Brendan Gallagher found Max Pacioretty after picking up the loose puck.
Pominville scored again just 22 seconds into the second period on a pass from Jack Eichel, before Philip Danault came in with the equalizer in the middle of the third period.
Drouin's lone goal in the shootout marked the fourth straight season-opening win for the Canadiens.
