The Capitals are hosting "Hockey Fights Cancer" night Wednesday at the Verizon Center, where they're welcoming the Penguins, CBS Sports reports.
Instead of just giving lip service to those battling the deadly disease, the Caps took a bold stance; they wore the names of friends and family members suffering from cancer on special pink warmup jerseys. The statement resonated with fans inside and outside the arena and will surely bring more awareness to a worthy cause.

Andi, the name several players chose to wear on the back of their jerseys, is in honor of Andi Lambert, the wife of Capitals assistant coach Lane Lambert. Andi died of cancer in September at 45. Players will also wear commemorative patches and autographed memorabilia will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the NHL's cancer-fighting initiative.
