Philadelphia Flyers forward Vincent Lecavalier could miss a month because of a non-displaced fracture in his lower back.
Team medical personnel conducted tests Sunday after called Lecavalier back to Philadelphia.
Lecavalier missed the past three games because of back spasms. He leads the Flyers with five power-play goals and has scored nine times overall. He is tied for fourth on the team with 14 points in 22 games.
Lecavalier signed a five-year, $22.5 million contract in the offseason. Lecavalier, a 6-4, 208-pound center, spent 14 years with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Lecavalier needs rest, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren told CSNPhilly.com.
“It was coming along yesterday when he skated and as the day went on, it tightened up a little bit,” Holmgren said Sunday night. “He had an X-ray in Dallas and it didn’t look great, flew back to Philadelphia this morning and had an MRI.”
Skating likely aggravated the injury, which occurred Nov. 30. Lecavalier missed the next three games on a curent six-game road trip.
With Lecavalier out, Brayden Schenn centered Michael Raffl and Wayne Simmonds. The Flyers will likely add a player from their AHL affiliate.
