For the 20th time out of the 21 IIHF Women's World Championships, it will be the United States and Canada battling it out for gold at the tournament. 

The two powerhouses clash together on Sunday afternoon, wrapping up the 2022 Women's World Championship. Canada has its eyes on its 12th gold medal at the event, while the USA is looking to draw closer to the all-time lead in gold medals, with a 10th gold up for grabs. 

The United States made easy work of Czechia in the semifinals, putting together a 10-1 win. Amanda Kessel recorded a hat trick and Taylor Heise had two goals and three assists in the win. Canada cruised by Switzerland 8-1 to advance to the gold-medal game. Marie-Philip Poulin and Sarah Fillier each had three points in the victory.

Both teams have dominated at the tournament. The USA is outscoring its opponents 52-5, allowing less than a goal per game and scoring over eight per game. The Americans have yet to lose a game at the Worlds. Meanwhile, Canada has outscored its opposition 30-8. Its lone loss came in the final game of the preliminary round, a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the USA. 

Canada came out on top in the 2021 championship game, a 3-2 overtime over the USA thanks to a goal by Poulin. Will Canada avenge its prelims loss and get another gold, or will the United States grab its first gold since 2019?
