The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that forward Andreas Johnsson underwent successful knee surgery on Wednesday and would require six months to recover.
Johnsson had to be helped off the ice during the Leafs' game against Dallas on Feb. 13 and didn't return after appearing to collide awkwardly with teammate Kasperi Kapanen in the Stars' zone. The next day, Toronto head coach Sheldon Keefe said that the 25-year-old winger was expected to miss significant time.
Keefe told reporters on Feb. 14 that Johnsson required knee surgery to repair the injury and that the forward was would be out for at least eight weeks of action. Instead, Wednesday's news rules Johnsson out of the rest of the 2019-20 season, erasing the initial hope of his return in the playoffs.

This is Johnsson's second injury in the last few months, with the Swede spending some time on the LTIR after injuring his leg while blocking a shot in a game against the Avalanche in December.
Johnsson signed a four-year, $13.6 million contract with the Leafs this summer and has tallied eight goals and 13 assists so far this season.
