Game 2 of the Hurricanes-Devils second-round series is tonight, and New Jersey could again be without one of its top wingers.

Devils forward Timo Meier missed Game 1 of the 2023 NHL playoff series and his status for Game 2 is up in the air.

He was injured as a result of a hit from Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba in the third period of the club's Game 7 win on Monday.

Meier was acquired at the trade deadline by the Devils in a deal with the Sharks. The 26-year-old Swiss winger had nine goals and 14 points in 21 games during the regular season with the Devils.

He has gone pointless so far in New Jersey's seven playoff games. His 27 shots on goal trail only Jack Hughes for the team lead so far in the postseason.

The Sporting News has all you need to know about Meier's status and how to watch Hurricanes vs. Devils Game 2.

Is Timo Meier playing tonight in Game 2?

Meier is still considered day-to-day, according to Devils head coach Lindy Ruff. He will be a game-time decision on Friday night.

Ruff said said on Friday that Meier was "feeling a lot better today." Meier was an active participant in Friday's morning skate ahead of Game 2.

Jesper Boqvist filled in Meier's spot on the third line with Dawson Mercer and Yegor Sharangovich in Game 1. It is likely that Boqvist goes back in again if Meier is still not ready for Game 2.
