The Panthers are on the verge of making history — both for the franchise, and in the NHL.

Florida has never hoisted the Stanley Cup in the history of the club. The Panthers were unsuccessful in their first two trips to the Stanley Cup Final, falling in 1996 to the Avalanche and losing in 2023 to the Golden Knights.

It appears the third time may be the charm, as the Panthers find themselves up 3-0 over the Oilers in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. Florida has done an outstanding job of shutting down Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Co., holding Edmonton to just four goals through the first three games of the series.

The job isn't done quite yet. Florida still needs to secure one more victory in order to be crowned this year's Stanley Cup champions. On the other side is an Edmonton team looking to pull off the improbable, but not impossible task of ripping off four consecutive wins in a row.

What does history say about sweeps in the NHL? Here is a look at every champion to win every game in the Stanley Cup Final.

Oilers fans, turn away.

Teams that have gone up 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final have historically done quite well. There have only been four instances of a team coming back down from three games to none in any round of the NHL playoffs, and only has it happened once in the finals.

On the other side, it's been quite some time since a club won all four games in the Stanley Cup Final. In fact, if the Panthers pull it off, it would mark the first time this century the NHL would have a sweep in the championship series.

The last time a Stanley Cup Final ended as quickly as possible was in 1998 when the Red Wings swept the Capitals to win Detroit's second consecutive championship — ironically, Detroit swept Philadelphia the year prior for the Stanley Cup.

Here is a look at every four-game sweep in Stanley Cup Final history.
