Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson has signed a two-year contract extension worth $9.5 million, the club announced on Friday morning.

Anderson, 36, was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season. He was in the final year of a three-year contract and the new AAV of $4.75 million is a pay raise from what he will make this season ($3.1 AAV). The contracts of both Ottawa goalies -- Anderson and Mike Condon -- now expire after the 2019-20 season as the Sens pave the way for goalie of the future Marcus Hogberg.

Last season, Anderson went 25-11-4 in 40 games despite taking an extended personal leave of absence to be with his ailing wife, who has since recovered from a cancer scare. He eventually returned and led the Senators to a second place finish in the Atlantic Division as well as the team's first Eastern Conference finals appearance since 2006-07. The Sens lost in six games to the Pittsburgh Penguins, though Anderson excelled by making 84 saves on 88 shots in the series' final two games, including the heartbreaking Game 7 double-overtime loss to the Penguins.
